The Last Shuffle - A look back on a short play

The writer and I met during the 2018 season of Short and Sweet Festival. She was acting in her first play. She was 86.

The photograph for the poster was taken by Mickey Richards who is in the play.
That's Teresa in the photograph too.

I was directing my play Three Little Words. She told me about a play she was working on and that's how it began. I said I would look over her script. Before you know it, I've taken it onboard and decided to direct it for her. It took a full year to bring it to life. Not without its own dramas, but that's life! It was worth it, just for the look on Teresa's face, which you can see for yourself.

Best New Talent at Short n Sweet Festival Sydney

I don't know about New, but I'll take the rest...

For writing and directing Three Little Words.

I'm in back under the letter 'w' haha

In front this time

Seems a lot of fuss for a ten minute play. But there was 130 of them! (from over 1000 submitted scripts and 500 participants).

And after 30 years, I'll take it! Gladly!

I'll upload the performance (sans audience) soon.

Action!   Take no prisoners Elvis!

Big thanks to Pete Malicki, Lydia Kelly and all the staff at Short and Sweet Theatre Sydney,

and of course,
the indomitable Elvis, Tom Harwood.

Great news!
We came third in the audience vote, which I really didn't expect due to the swearing and bold nature which I knew would offend some, so this was a real surprise.
And we came first in the Crew Choice!
So we are off to the Finals on March 29th and 30th!

To have gotten this far is just amazing to me.
I was happy enough just being part of it.
All the plays were great in their own way, so a shame that some get left out.
I'm very proud of Tom and what he brought to the character. It was a great
collaboration. What you hope for when working with others.

My first performed play - at Sydney Festival

I'm thrilled to announce that I have a play that will be performed at the Short and Sweet Festival in Sydney, which is currently underway. I'm also directing it.
It will occur in the 9th week from the 15th to the 18th of March inclusive. Thursday to Sunday. Four performances in total. If you're in town, I hope you can make it.

It's called Three Little Words and is adapted from a short story from my collection, Pseudo Stars.
While I've written a few plays before, this is the first to be performed. So pretty excited and pretty nervous.

What's it called?
Three Little Words.

What's it about?
I'm an alcoholic? No I'm not.

That gives you an idea. Kinda...

I hope to film it somehow, so if you miss it, it may end up online. Maybe.
