I

I suppose the three of us were in love. I don’t think I’m changing history by saying that. It may sound a little provocative, but it certainly didn’t last. But what if it had? Could it have been sustained? Would I go back to that one summer night in particular and do things differently? I guess we’d all like to go back to some aspect of our past and change it if we could. I know many people say that you should live life with no regrets, but how can that be? Are they perfect? Do they not make mistakes? Recognise missed opportunities? It seems that my entire life since those early days have been filled with regret. It’s hard to believe I was once such a positive person.
It was over sixteen years ago now, when tomorrow was a bright and flawless artwork just waiting for the brush strokes and all that mattered was that very moment. I think most people feel that at seventeen. The only thing in the world that meant anything was the friendship between Tom and Jen and I. She was beautiful, in a tomboyish, country way. Yet she was only just becoming aware of how striking she was. Tom and I had stirrings for her for some time, but we had not given voice to it for fear it would tarnish our three way friendship. As though it was a secret too great to risk sharing. Little did we know that by the simple act of suppressing our adolescent desires, only made them flourish. It was like trying to hold back a wave of greedy shoppers at a stocktake sale. When our desire was finally released, we were trampled underfoot.

Bottomless River has received it's first review, by reviewer and writer Graham Clements. He said that it 'has an emotional punch thrown by believable characters.' And The main character’s inner turmoil seemed so realistic that I thought the writer had to be writing from experience.

  1. Last night I read The Bottomless River by Anthony J Langford.

God! this was a hugely challenging read for me and I almost stopped during the first half. However it is written openly and honestly I was glad I stayed with it. The end is both beautiful and sad but has left me today feeling uplifted.

Anthony's writing is so elequent (even when he's swearing to the maximum) I could feel myself there in the town and the characters, which while wasn't always a comfortable feeling. The emotions evoked were real and palpable. A very confronting and heartwrenching story. Anthony is a brave soul to be such a writer, it's so raw and confronting.

    Huge congratulations Anthony :D xxx

  2. Bottomless River! I enjoyed it from the first few pages right through to the end. Only almost 60 pages but full of lessons, full of emotions, nothing gets confusing and that's what I like. I found myself very understanding of the main character in terms of thinking and decision-making. Like how he is innocent yet so guilty! The words and quotes describe the created atmosphere quite suitably. It moved me, especially towards the end as Tori's 'smells like teen spirit' was playing at the same time. The story flows well. A great read! BR goes on my bookshelf and will always be kept.

Great job Anthony and thank you for signing my book! :D

  3. Hi Anthony, I read Bottomless River, and I have to say I barely could stop each time my train ride journey came to an end. There was just something about that story that made me NEED to keep reading. A fantastic piece of work that you can be very proud of. I only hope that it is a begining of something big for you. Well done, and thank you for sharing it with us! Best wishes with your Launch next week!

  6. I believe what you published made a lot of sense. However, consider this,
what if you wrote a catchier post title?
I ain't suggesting your information isn't solid., however suppose you added something that grabbed people's
attention? I mean "Opening paragraphs - Bottomless River - now in Bookstores! Plus first review" is a little vanilla.

You should peek at Yahoo's home page and watch how they write news
headlines to grab people to open the links. You might try adding a
video or a related picture or two to grab people interested about everything've written.
In my opinion, it would bring your posts a little bit more interesting.
