BOTTOMLESS RIVER - First Look Cover..

Not too long now until my first published book, the novella, Bottomless River is released, though don't have the final date yet. Here is the preliminary cover. The final version is yet to be settled upon. I'm working through it with the publisher. I took the photograph and did the design.

I'll post the back cover soon. Again, a work in progress, but it won't be too dissimilar.

Love to hear your thoughts.

  3. Congratulations! I can imagine how excited you'd be. This is fantastic Anthony. Not sure if you're looking for suggestions or not (but as you said it's a work in progress). If you are, the picture is fantastic. It's just, in my very critical opinion only, the text seems to get a little lost? More so the text at the bottom than that at the top. It may be the font? Or it might be the alignment (maybe add some space between the bottom of the pic and the sub-heading?). Then again, it could look entirely fantast printed?

    1. Thanks for your thoughts Chris.. and your spot on. The publisher has already addressed the same thing and lost the small words and made the rest bigger and bolder. Keeping the font though.
      cheers mate.

  5. Wonderful cover, Anthony. You really are a "Jack of all trades." I wish I hadn't written that, because now I need to google it to learn its origins - who's this Jack dude and is he single? Sorry for my self serving digression; I'm very excited for you, my multi-talented friend!

  6. Quick google check and I must clarify that I didn't mean to imply you are good/okay with all things, "master of none." I meant that you excel at all of it. [Yet to be determined is who Jack is, but it seems he's your average Joe so it's likely he's still single and I've already dated him.]

  7. Hi Anthony,

I did not notice the beer bottle until my third examination of the cover. Why have I looked three times you ask? Because for me, there was something not right about the cover and not being an art critic I was finding it hard to pin point. At first I thought it was the clash of the blue top and bottom with the picture - but that doesn't seem to be as prominent on subsequent viewings. The whiteness of her legs attracts the eye - so placing the subtitle near them might be of benefit. I've been trying to imagine the cover without the border just a photo with writing on it, and I think it would look better. I've just had a look at a few book covers with pictures on them and the pictures all cover the entire cover, they have no borders. The title is just placed over the picture.

  8. Thanks for your thoughts Graham. I did try to place text on the photograph originally but it got a little lost. The final version has been decided upon. A little different than this but not too dissimilar. It's not perfect but I didn't have to pay for a designer and its better than many of the low end publishing covers I've seen, imo.
